Jewelry Care
We know you will love your jewelry from Forever Loved Keepsakes. Unlike most pieces, this one will be sentimental, and we know you will want it to last. Aside from solid gold pieces, metals can tarnish (solid gold options are available as a “custom option”) and unlike typical stones, your keepsake resin stone can dull or discolor over time without proper care and storage. Please consider following the guidelines below to keep your keepsake looking its best. We share all of this information to be extra cautious and conservative because of how special your inclusions are to you and don’t want your jewelry to become damaged.
Water Exposure: It is recommended to remove your keepsake jewelry when it will be exposed to water. While it will likely be ok to get wet while washing your hands, repeated practices may cause the stone to yellow.
Showers and baths: Please remove your jewelry before bathing considering the combination of water, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner exposure.
Pools and Jacuzzis: High levels of chlorine or salt can dull the surface of your resin stone and corrode precious metals. If not planning to go in water, it is still recommended to leave home due to sun, sunscreen, and potential to misplace if taking off.
Ocean/Beach: Sodium chloride in salt water can cause corrosion and tarnishing of metals. Salt deposits can trap moisture and dull keepsake stones. Long term sun exposure as well as applying sunscreen can cause your stone to discolor. The jewelry resin used is “UV resistant” meaning it should not yellow in the sun but it is still our recommendation not to risk considering it is a keepsake.
Chemicals: Using and applying any product that contains chemicals can negatively impact your keepsake jewelry. It is best to remove your jewelry, specifically rings, while cleaning, gardening, and getting ready using skin care and cosmetics. It is best to let any skincare, cosmetics, or perfumes fully absorb and then wash hands and dry before putting your jewelry on for the day/night. Hand sanitizer is also considered a chemical, even alcohol-free options, because of its anti-bacterial properties.
Physical Activity: It is not recommended to wear your jewelry while working out as sweat can impact your jewelry over time, weights/equipment can dent or break rings, and high intensity movements can tangle necklaces or cause snagging.
Sleep: Take off before you sleep to prevent any snagging or resting against your body (sweat and oils).
Cleaning and storage: To keep jewelry looking its best, use the polishing cloth provided to clean off any build up. If needed, your band can be cleaned with mild soap and water and scrubbed with a soft toothbrush. Do not use a jewelry cleaner or machine because of the resin keepsake stone (chemicals). Store in a cool, dark and dry place (not in a bathroom!). You can store with the silica packet provided if you live in a high humidity space.
